The sudden bout of rain wrought by the looming typhoon cast a gloomy pall over this second day of our training camp, but over and above that, what weighed even more heavily on our hearts was how little time we had left before the 三商大戦 in November.

On that note, we trooped off to Saitama University for our scheduled joint training, and promptly kicked off an intense morning of focused training. The first thing that struck us was that the training menu was very much streamlined and optimized, with every item geared fully towards nurturing speedier and more effective moves and counters in the ring.

The sparring leg of today's training was especially fruitful, as we experienced first-hand the fruits of our opponents' hard labour - the many polished techniques acquired through their day-to-day training. Indeed, it is perhaps only through these rare opportunities that we are able to fully measure ourselves against a firm benchmark, and divine for ourselves where our weaknesses lie, and in effect, the road ahead towards further improvement.

Lately, with the tempo intensifying in anticipation of the monumental 三商大戦, the number of injured trainees has seen a marked rise - in relation to this, a piece of well-meaning and extremely reasoned advice that we received from our 師範 was something along the following lines:

'It is not merely sufficient to observe and learn from the sidelines - it is paramount also to be active in managing your own injuries. The first step is to find out more. Once you've done that, take prompt steps to ensure a quick recovery, for example, in the case of a muscular injury, strengthening the surrounding muscles will not only allow you to come back faster, but even stronger than before, perhaps.'

Absorbed in quenching our burning thirst to get stronger in the shortest time possible, injury management is indeed something that we often find ourselves inadvertently neglecting in our training, and regretfully, more often than not, the resultant injuries are those that set us back by way more than however much time we might have been hoping to save.

Counting down from now, it is almost exactly two months to the eagerly awaited showdown in November. No amount of preparation is ever enough; we would always wish for more time to get ready of course, but bearing in mind the advice that we have received today, we will make full use of the time we do have in pacing ourselves and striving our hardest to ensure that we face our opponents in the best condition possible - mind, body and spirit - on that fated day, two months from now.
