Looking back on the past year, it is most heartening to note that we have all indeed grown much as a club: from being jubilantly excited about welcoming the freshmen recruits into our midst, to being pressured by their skills and fighting spirit (and reflecting on our own abilities and weaknesses as a result), to the final phase, right now, standing together on the tatami as one united front, ready to lay down our fullest in contributing to the shared cause of giving our opponents the best fight we can on the 23rd of this month.
The most important aspect about the 三商大戦 is probably how it differs greatly from all other judo competitions: unlike usual individual matches, or team matches even, the sense of continuity embedded into the nexus of the competition is unlike any other, and calls upon each and every individual to draw out every ounce of strength, spirit and guts that he has to make the team successful in its mission. And that, is precisely what we will do in Kobe next week – all the way!
