While it was most regretful that our morning lectures yesterday had to be cancelled (if you must know, this comment is four parts sarcasm and six parts true intellectual curiosity), the typhoon also swept away our fatigue in time for training to begin anew today.

Tazawa learning a thing or two from the typhoon in going for the kill.

I emphasize “anew” because, having just returned to Japan from my two-month long internship in Singapore (which was an enriching experience for the mind but a debilitating for the body), it felt fantastic to finally get back to practice today, almost like getting the chance to go on a second first date with the girl of your dreams and fall in love all over again. It feels really great to be back: training hard together with the rest of the team and slinging jokes at each other after.

All dressed up for a fabulous second first date.

I am proud to report also that, while I didn’t have the luxury of time during my two months in Singapore to train at a local dojo, I did manage to squeeze in quite a bit of gym training on the days I got off work early. To put things into perspective:

Before: 66kg
After: 75kg

Unbelievable as it might sound, things actually went according to plan and I managed to gain 1kg per week during my time in Singapore. All that’s left to put all this new weight to good use! This new bulked up frame is going to take some getting used to, but boy am I psyched about ramping up whatever I can in the days ahead before our coming competitions.
